About us

Tim and Barbara Snyder met in Newtown, Connecticut over 35 years ago at Taunton Press. Barbara was an art director and Tim was an editor for Fine Homebuilding. We played scrabble on our first date and were married 6 months later. We shared a love of craftsmanship, physical labor and tools. That has led us down many dark alleys indoors and out. We have survived all of it, possibly worse for the wear, but finely honed.

This is us standing on top of our garage roof installing a cupola and weather vane in 2015. Tim fashioned a wood ladder that we attached to the ridge so we could have footing while going up and down the steep pitch. It was not an easy install as we dragged it up there with ropes and it is as big as we are.

This blog is about two 65 year olds designing and renovating a home for their retirement. This will be our 6th and final house renovation.
